FALL SEMESTER 2009

12/9

Project: Paint on canvas but use only one color in each piece. I will allow myself to create different hues or shades of the color, and also incorporate illegible writing, so it appears abstract to the viewer but has words on it. So there is a little deeper meaning. It still needs to have the unfinished feeling to it, and the abstractness aspect as well.

Purpose: To further explore abstract art, and techniques to expand upon what I have learned so far. Also to make my work have a deeper meaning, but still have the unfinished feeling to it.

Materials: Thinner canvas, paint, ink, watercolors

Time: Four pieces, and each piece shouldn’t take more then a week. So one month approximately.

11/11

Project: To create more abstract pieces so I can continue to explore the path I have taken this past first marking period. I shall create abstract pieces with black/brown as the main color or tone of the piece, but be able to incorporate a little bit of color if I so choose.

Purpose: The purpose is for me to further explore abstract art, and expand upon what I have already discovered this past marking period. I want to experiment with the actual painting and not focus so much on the colors, but more of the brush strokes and composition.

Materials: Paint, brown paper

Time: One week per each piece maximum, and I will create a total of 6 pieces

10/10

Revisions of first propsal: My original first proposal has to be changed considering I am no longer focusing on paintings that incorporate nature. I am now focusing on abstract art work due to a happy accident on my first piece that was for my original proposal. I was painting the background and it looked cool so I decided to keep up with the abstract work. My proposal is to make abstract work that uses paint, but different painting techniques so they don’t all look the same.

Objective: The purpose of this assignment is for me to try to get more satisfaction out of my work, and to have the pieces look unfinished to some, but still be finished and complete without a main subject or meaning that is completely obvious to the viewer, which allows for more interpretation for the people who see the art. This will allow people to take different meanings from the pieces and see it in their own way. Also the purpose is for me to try something totally different from what I have done in the past, to get out of my old rut of not liking my pieces, and to be out of my comfort zone with trying something new through experimentation.

Materials: Canvas of different size, paint

Timeline: I will try to create approximately 10 pieces. Each piece will take approximately 4 days at most.

1st Proposal

Project: I would like to create four pieces using canvas. I want these pieces to incorporate nature, and photography, whether it be my own or someone else’s. I want to use paint for the most part but I do want to incorporate other mediums as well. I want to incorporate nature as the theme and as part of the materials used in the pieces.

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to push myself as an artist. I would like to step out of my realm of comfort and use new materials as to force myself to think differently. I want to incorporate the photography since I love it. Also the purpose of the project is for me to start thinking differently when it comes to my art, and pushing myself to do something different.

Materials: Canvas, paint, nature (plants, dirt, etc.) photographs, glue, ink

Time: I would like to complete each piece within 1 ½ weeks. So 6 weeks for all four pieces to be completed.
