Progress Reports

SPRING SEMESTER 2010

Progress Report #3 5/21

I have finished everything I need to have done for the art show. I am just finishing working on my name and then that’s it. I really can’t believe everything is coming to an end and the art show is here. I am excited and extremely nervous for the setup this weekend but hopefully everything goes well.

Progress Report #2 5/7

I have gotten a lot done over the past two weeks even with being out because of my AP exams. I have continues with my proposal longer then I thought I would because I really like what I’m doing with the thin canvas and layering them. Some are more successful then others which I expect because it is by chance that they turn out good. It is a process of experimenting over and over with different colors, different techniques, and different processes to get an end result that is successful and not boring. I have to keep pushing myself to get them done and take them a step further so they will be successful and interesting to look at, not just blobs of paint on canvas, which some of them are. I think things are still going well but I still need to work hard because the art show is approaching very fast.

Progress Report #1 4/23

I’ve finished a lot of pieces for my last proposal. With all the overlapping its easy to create multiple pieces at once. I really like how they are turning out and how they are similar but different. I think they are successful, and are different from my other work. I hope t continue them and be done sometime by next week, and start working on something else. I just need to focus and get a lot done for the art show so my panels can be really good.

Progress Report #4 3/19

Finished the piece son the thinner canvas and I got a total of nine done. I am really please with them, especially the four that I overlapped while painting, they turned out a lot better then i thought that they would. I recently purchased more canvas, a total of eight that are four different sizes. I painted the base color today and I think I am going to continue experimenting with layering, so a new proposal is to come once I know what I plan on doing.

Progress Report #3 3/5

I finished all of the six pieces on the canvas, and I really like how they turned out. I want to go to the art store and buy more canvas to do more of these pieces. At the moment I have been working on the thinner canvas, and just experimenting with layering on that canvas. I have finished three pieces of that so far, and they are turning out alright. I need to catch up on photographing my pieces to update my website, which I hopefully will do sometime next week. I need to pick things back up and continue working hard, so I have enough pieces for the art show that I like. Right now I think I am in good shape, but I need to keep up the work and keep experimenting to have more interesting and successful pieces.

Progress Report #2 2/19

I have finished five of the six pieces so far. I really like all of them, and it never ceases to amaze me what I can create. I always think I will run out of an idea, but I just continue to go with my gut and it is working, and is successful. The sixth piece I have begun today. It will probably be the most difficult since it is the largest. I have changed my proposal to what I was referring to in my last progress report and quite frankly I like it a lot better. I may continue with this canvas stuff and make my next proposal similar to my last since I think I have been successful. For myself I like the simplicity of these pieces but I think for the next set of them I will make them more intricate and with more layers of colors, with blending of colors as well. I am still thinking about it but I think this is the direction I am headed in right now, but we will see considering I get great ideas when I don’t even think too much about it.

Progress Report #1 2/5

I have started the canvas pieces. I am having a hard time just working on one at a time, I like jumping around from the four pieces I’ve started. Some are more finished then others but I am not entirely sure if two of the pieces are done yet. they might be considering I don’t know what else to do to them… I have been productive and worked on them constantly. I just can’t bring myself to try to incorporate other elements besides paint. I just can’t do it. I’m thinking about reworking the proposal after my conversation with Mr. Miller yesterday. After looking around on his and Mr. William’s websites I might just play with the paint and letting the back color come through by the way I paint. I think I will layer the paint and focus on making interesting brush strokes. For now I am just going to continue to mess around and see what happy accident might happen.

FALL SEMESTER 2009

Progress Report #7 1/15

I have finally finished the four color pieces. I am not particularly happy with them but I am so sick of painting them. I have worked on my sketch book somewhat and have made some progress on those pieces. The color pieces are interesting but boring. They didn’t turn out how I wanted but that’s alright, you learn from trial and error. I am starting to think about my next proposal for next semester, and am continuing to update my wordpress site as you can see. I am excited for this semster to be over and to start on new things, and new ideas and continuing to see where my abstract experiments may go…

Progress Report #6 12/18

I have made a lot of progress these past two weeks. I have finished all four of the pieces for the most part.  I have four pieces of canvas, each a different color. One is red, one is blue, One is green, and one is purple. Each is a different size,  but all of them have the same brush strokes and all are just one color, but different hues of the color. I like the pieces but they are not quite done yet, and I still have to do more to them I am just not sure as to what. I know I still need to add illegible words to each, in the same color as the piece, which I think will help make the pieces seem more finished. I am not sure entirely where I am going with these pieces or what the end result will be, but do I really ever know? Not really.

Progress Report #5 12/4

I am still doing abstract work. I haven’t made a lot of progress this week and the previous since I was out sick for two days. I have finished three pieces completely and I am almost done my fourth. After that I have two more. This past week I have painted three more pieces of paper white. It is a shiner white then what I had used before. I don’t love the shiny but it is something different to try and work with and makes my pieces look a little different, but still similar since I am sticking with the brown and black, neutral theme with a pop of color, if I feel it s necessary. I haven’t learned all that much this past week, but hopefully with trying new things with the paint I with these last three pieces I will learn something next week. I’d like tot ry to finish everything by the end of next week, but it ill depend on how long these three will take. I also have some ideas in mind for my next project. I would like to use the thinner canvas and possibly play around with overlapping colors and making the colors bleed through the fabric. Hopefully the next two week will be more succesful then these past two, but I am still working hard and trying new things with my work.

Progress Report #4 11/20

I am still continuing my work with abstract. I really like it, and it seems to still come naturally to me. I am now more focused on using brown and black paint, with color. I have completed one piece, and am almost done a second. I am painting with paper towels which is something that I haven’t done before. I also have been incorporating the used paper towels into that piece. I really like my one piece, and how the second one is coming along so far. I think changing up my proposal and making it more specific each time will allow me to have stronger pieces that are different from previous ones, which is exactly what I am doing in this collection of work. I continue to learn more techniques each day I paint, and it really is helping me become a stronger and better artist. I really am still continuing to learn about abstract, and each day is sort of a new adventure, I just never know where my piece will end up, or what the end result will be. That’s the beauty of abstract, being able to be free to do whatever I please.

Progress Report #3 10/16

I am still working on my abstract pieces, I have begun my very last ones. I am still continuing to experiment with colors, and techniques I use in my pieces. I really like doing the abstract work, and having the pieces seem unfinished. I am still expirementing with the size of the canvas and the overlaying of shapes and paints in each piece. I think I am still being succsful with my work, and I am staying on task on my second prompt. Everything is still going according to plan and my timeline is still good and I should be finished all my ten pieces by the end of the marking period.

Progress Report #2 10/1

I am still focusing on my abstract work. I have completed 3 pieces, so far. One piece is almost done I am just unsure as to what else to do with it. I have started painting the backgrounds on four smaller pieces. I will continue with my abstract work for now as it is teaching me a lot so far. I am learning how to just go with the flow more when it comes to me art. I also am learning new techniques to painting through experimentation, and thus far I have not created each piece the same. They may all involve paint as their main medium but the process is different. I feel this is helping me to further expand the learning process. In one piece I just used paint brushes, another I painted with my fingers, the other I incorporated ink, and lastly I used water and tried to make the paint runny to achieve a different effect. I really like all of my work so far, and I am very pleased with it. I feel as if my pieces are successful and all different from one another which makes them more successful as well. I think what I am doing so far is great, and I love it so we will continue to see where my abstract work leads next.

Progress Report #1 9/18

So far I am not anywhere near my goals in my proposal. I have not started any of the pieces I initially stated I would create. Instead I have taken a completely different route, and topic to study. I am now trying to create abstract pieces instead of pieces that are nature related that incorporate my photography. I instead am now trying to create abstract pieces using paint and canvas. I have started looking at artists in books, and online that create abstract art. So far my goals originally stated have been put on hold, as I now have some new ones that are more important. So right now I am trying to create more abstract pieces besides the one I made by “accident”. So am I near any of my original goals, no, do I have better ideas and projects in mind, yes.

So far I have learned a lot in a week. I had just picked out an old canvas with some paint already on it, and choose it because I liked the colors. I decided I wanted to paint over it a little to change it up a bit. I painted yellow where I thought I needed it. I learned the next day how my little bit of paint made it a really cool piece of abstract work. This made me realize that not every painting needs to have a subject in order to be what you may want, or may what be a good piece or work of art. I figured this out without even trying to make an abstract piece. My discovery made me want to continue with making abstract work. So for the time being I am going to continue to experiment with it, and try to make more pieces that have no subject but are different from anything I have done before.
