Typically art has a subject, some deeper meaning, and appears finished. That is how most people view art. I on the other hand disagree. Art doesn’t need a subject, a deeper meaning, or need to appear finished. Abstract art defines those things. People tend to not understand or “get” abstract art. It seems to be a bunch of lines, shapes, blobs, or a bunch of random color. It appears to be nothing. I can’t honestly say that I have never felt that way. I did at one point, but my mind was changed once I started creating it. Creating abstract art is more difficult then it looks. Sometimes it appears that a little kid could make it with some crayons, paint, and a piece of construction paper. I felt that way until I had to go and make it myself. It is about the process of creating, or in my case painting. How can I create a texture? a pattern? something amazing to look at? Even without a subject, or a deeper meaning. That is not the only challenge abstract artists face. When is the piece ever finished? If you keep on at the piece you could potentially over do it. The key is to stop once you think it looks alright to you and you are satisfied. No one may understand what you were trying to achieve through your art, or “get” it. All that matters is that the end result makes you happy, even if you didn’t know where you were going with it originally.
